virgina to phoenix
one thing is for certain, the further we get from the pacific northwest, the worst the coffee gets. at breakfast today we each got coffee. plain coffee, no splenda, no honey, not flavored coffee, no flavored creamers, no cinnamon sprinkles on top. no whip cream, no hot sleeve. wth, i know, thats what i thought.
maybe we drink too much coffee, naaa thats not the answer.
if i didnt live in oregon, i could probally live in the southeast part of the country. alabama, south carolina, north carolina, kentucky, tennesse, virgina. (if it wasnt for the humidity.) but my whole family would have to move with me. spring time is just perfect now. everything is new, that light spring green is everywhere, the trees are greening up , the flowers are starting to bloom, it is just so beautiful.
before leaving virgina i noticed many citys and some countys on their signs that display their names, under some of them was also written 'a certified business location' i looked it up and it basicly means what we call shovel ready property. its to try and encourage businesses to the area.
i saw what looked like and important sign, "y 12 national security complex " in tennesse. thats a business that helps keep america safe.
in texas , since we were on a different road we havent yet driven on, i saw a bunch of interesting signs.
On hwy 30 there was a road side cemetery with i guess about a dozen or so headstones. there was a brown historical marker ahead sign. on the marker it states that an alien body, (ufo, not an illegal from across the boarder) is burried there. texas is a little ways from roswell , new mexico and area 51. this is what i gleaned from the web site:
Newspaper accounts in April 1897 reported that the alien craft hit a windmill pondaros and was torn to pieces, along with its occupant. A 1986 movie, Aurora Encounter, recreates the tale. i snagged their picture of the historical marker since mine didnt turn out well.
another site was a tribute to Dan Blocker, Hoss on the tv show Bonanza.
Across the street is the O'Donnell Museum, displaying some Hoss memorabilia and area history. Dan's other claim to fame is that he was the largest baby ever born in Bowie County (14 lbs.), in the town of DeKalb in 1928.
there was a sign that read, rattlesnake bomber base. i thought they really have a problem with rattle snakes dont they. it was really announcing the Pyote Air Force Station, AKA "Rattlesnake Bomber Base"
a very funny sign when entering the city limits of stanton texas. i got a picture of it , a picture is worth a thousand words.
oh, yea almost forgot, i was driving when i had a blow out. it was one of the rear trailer tires. and guess what happened. nothing, not a thing. i heard the tire blow out, but never lost control etc. in fact will said to continue 10 more miles to the truckstop and then call roadside service. i guess its a good thing to have 18 tires, when one goes, you still have 17 left.
we are in phoenix, waiting to be unloaded. hoping it does not take 13 hours, like it did to load us in virgina. we both have a simulator class to take while here in phoenix so we will get that out of the way. the truck needs service oil change, etc. hoping to get laundry done. since the last 2 hotels didnt have a laundry. whats up with that? also need to upload those pictures. need to do a little grocery shopping, running out of fruit, and crackers. my kids have nearly convinced me that diet soda is bad for you, so i am trying to stick to one a day, ok , ok, maybe two. that is quite a drop from my 6 pack a day habit. it has cut down on my bathroom breaks. which on a side note is a good thing in texas. the majority of road side rest area are called picnic areas, there is no restroom.
i cant believe it , it is way to hot to be sitting on the road side in the sun just to eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. thats crazy. thats what air conditioned vehicles are for.
by the way it is 8:30 am in phoenix and our outside thermometer says 87 degrees. UGH!!!
love and miss you all,
